The freezer verdict
Can You Freeze Pizza?
Leftover pizza freezes well for 1–2 months — wrap the slices one at a time and reheat them with real heat.
What USDA says

| Leftovers (pizza) (freezer) | 1–2 months |
What happens when you freeze pizza
Pizza is bread, sauce, and cheese, and all three take the cold in stride. The crust firms up and crisps back under a hot oven; the cheese re-melts without splitting. What suffers is anything wet or delicate on top — fresh tomato, arugula, pineapple — which slumps and weeps. A store’s frozen pizza carries USDA’s 12 months and its own cook-as-directed instruction; your leftover slices get 1–2 months. The reheat matters more than the freezing: a microwave hands you a limp slice, an oven or a dry skillet hands you pizza.
How to freeze it right
- Cool the slices in the fridge first — warm pizza steams itself soggy inside the bag.
- Wrap each slice tight in plastic or foil so it can be pulled out one at a time.
- Stack the wrapped slices in one freezer bag with the air pressed out.
- Slide a square of parchment between slices if you skip the individual wrap.
- Label the bag with the date — leftovers get 1–2 months and you won’t remember.
Thawing and using it
Go straight from frozen. Bake the slices on a hot sheet pan or a preheated stone until the cheese bubbles and the bottom crisps, or set them in a dry skillet over medium heat with a lid for the last minute. A store-bought frozen pizza stays frozen until it goes in the oven — cook it as the box directs, not as leftovers.
Can you refreeze it?
A slice thawed in the fridge can be refrozen safely, but the crust dries and the cheese turns rubbery. Pull one slice at a time and it never comes up.
