Can you freeze cheese? FREEZES, BUT…

Can it sit out?

How to tell if shredded cheese has gone bad

  • Shreds welded into one clump instead of falling apart
  • Fuzzy blue or green spots anywhere in the bag — shreds get binned, not trimmed
  • An ammonia or sour smell as the bag opens
  • A slick, wet feel to the shreds

When in doubt, throw it out.

Frozen shreds go straight onto the pizza or into the casserole — thaw them first and you get a wet clump instead of a melt.
