How to tell if pumpkins has gone bad

  • Soft spots that give under a press, usually on the underside
  • Liquid weeping where it sits
  • White or grey mold around the stem
  • A stem gone black and pulling away

When in doubt, throw it out.

Once you cut it, a pumpkin becomes a wrapped fridge item on a far shorter clock — roast the flesh rather than let it sit.
