Can it sit out?

Instant tea is shelf-stable, so sitting out at room temperature isn’t the safety question — storage time is.

How to tell if instant tea has gone bad

  • Powder gone hard, or set into one lump
  • A stale, papery smell in the jar
  • Crystals that leave grit in the bottom of the glass

When in doubt, throw it out.

Store it well away from the kettle — the steam off a boil is exactly what turns the powder to rock.
